Is the APA negotiable?

The APA percentage itself (25-35%) is a standard industry practice and not typically negotiable. However, the actual amount is directly influenced by your choices. By discussing your preferences and itinerary with your charter broker, you can manage the expected costs and thus the APA amount.

Can I pay the APA by credit card?

Typically, the APA is paid via bank transfer along with the final charter fee payment, well in advance of the charter. This ensures the funds are cleared and available for the captain to provision the yacht before your arrival.

Why is the APA a percentage of the charter fee?

Using a percentage provides a reliable estimate of the likely running costs. More expensive yachts tend to be larger, have higher fuel consumption, and offer more amenities, all of which lead to higher variable expenses. The percentage model has proven to be a fair and effective way to budget for these costs.

What is the best way to handle crew gratuity?

The most common practice is to give the gratuity (typically 10-20% of the base charter fee) to the captain at the end of the charter. The captain will then distribute it amongst the crew members. This can be paid in cash or, if arranged in advance, can sometimes be deducted from the APA.

How can I be sure the APA is being managed honestly?

Reputation is everything in the yachting industry. Captains and charter companies like Bluebnc Yachting pride themselves on their professionalism and transparency. The captain maintains meticulous, itemized accounts that are available for your inspection at any time. We only work with the most trusted and experienced captains in the industry.

This is exactly what the preference sheet is for. Inform us of any allergies, dietary restrictions, or specific culinary desires. Our chefs are highly experienced in catering to a wide range of dietary needs, from gluten-free to vegan to kosher, and will provision accordingly using the APA.
