Answer in brief

A Yacht Charter St Barths is a crewed weekly superyacht charter centred on Gustavia, quiet leeward bays and short passages to St Martin and Anguilla. The prime season is December to April. For 30 m-plus yachts, plan roughly US$65,000 to US$1.2 million-plus per week, plus a 25–35% APA. St Barths embarkations sit outside the EU VAT area; confirm itinerary-specific local charges before contracting.

Yacht Charter St Barths for the winter social season

St Barths is compact, exposed and socially concentrated. Gustavia supplies the town-facing rhythm: a tender ashore for dinner, a harbour-side table and a late return through riding lights. Beyond it, a superyacht itinerary balances an active port, the north-coast beach scene and quieter leeward water. The right programme uses short passages, a capable tender and a captain-led plan for wind, swell, clearance and formalities across the neighbouring islands every day.

Winter 2026/27 has two peaks. Christmas and New Year bring the island’s famous concentration of yachts and midnight fireworks above Fort Oscar; March brings the sailing-led St Barths Bucket. Official 2027 Bucket dates are 17–21 March. Gustavia space is limited: the port takes no formal reservations, but a yacht should submit dimensions and intended arrival early, then seek Port Captain authorisation before manoeuvring or taking its assigned harbour position.

A Leeward Islands charter should use St Martin or Sint Maarten as well as St Barths. Princess Juliana International Airport is the principal gateway; the tourism board lists a ten-minute SXM–SBH shuttle flight, 45-minute ferries from Simpson Bay or Philipsburg and a one-hour service from Marigot. St Martin adds provisioning and marina infrastructure; Anguilla offers a quieter counterpoint after clearance at Sandy Ground, with distinct British-influenced shoreside character and broad sandy beaches.

Where to take a superyacht around St Barths

The island rewards close route planning. Harbour limits, marine-park rules, wind direction and tender capability matter as much as the charted distance between beaches.

Port de Gustavia and the harbour anchorage

Gustavia is the port of entry and social centre. Stern-to berthing requires an anchor and Port Captain authorisation on VHF 12 before entry or manoeuvring; pre-clearance is available within 24 hours. For New Year, provide yacht dimensions and intended dates early, but do not treat that as a confirmed reservation. A quay berth puts dining within easy reach; the outer anchorage offers flexibility when it is full.

Shell Beach and the Gustavia shore

Shell Beach is five minutes’ walk from central Gustavia and works for a short tender landing, lunch or sunset after town. Do not improvise the yacht’s position: an optical cable creates a marked no-anchoring channel off the beach. Work from an approved harbour or anchorage position and follow the Captain’s local instructions. During festive week, agree tender timing before guests go ashore.

Colombier Bay and Île Fourchue

Colombier is a marine-reserve excursion with white sand, seagrass and snorkelling; tender access is the right way to land guests. It is not an anchorage for a 30 m-plus charter yacht. The environmental authority excludes vessels over 25 metres from Colombier and Fourchue bays. Keep the superyacht outside restricted water and run the visit with captain-led local guidance.

Saint-Jean and Grand Cul-de-Sac

Saint-Jean, minutes from Gustavia, combines beach restaurants, water activity and small-aircraft approaches to SBH beside the sand. Use it as a daytime tender stop rather than a default overnight position. Grand Cul-de-Sac has a lagoon character and specific controls. The Captain should select the yacht’s position for the wind and swell, then use the tender for beach, lunch and watersports.

Simpson Bay, Marigot and Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten and French St Martin widen operational options. IGY Simpson Bay has 122 slips, 20 megayacht berths and a published 57.5-metre maximum length; Port de Plaisance publishes berthing to 260 feet. These are useful bases for provisioning, crew changes and SXM arrivals. Vessels moving between the Dutch and French sides must clear Customs and Immigration.

Anguilla: Road Bay and Prickly Pear Cays

After Gustavia, Anguilla offers a quieter beach or Prickly Pear Cays day. Clear at Sandy Ground in Road Bay before cruising onward. The crossing is open water, so plan it around the forecast and tender operations. Within a seven-night charter, make Anguilla one purposeful overnight or full day rather than squeeze it between St Barths social commitments.

A 7-Day Superyacht Itinerary from St Martin to St Barths

This route begins where air access and marina support are strongest, then spends its best hours in St Barths. All distances are approximate and the Captain will alter routing for sea state, clearance and confirmed berth arrangements.

  1. Day 1: SXM arrival – Simpson Bay / Marigot

Meet arrivals at SXM and transfer to the yacht’s Sint Maarten base. IGY Simpson Bay or Port de Plaisance supports practical embarkation; Marigot is a French-side alternative. Keep the afternoon local for a safety briefing, a short run and dinner aboard. That preserves flexibility if flights, baggage or provisioning run late.

  2. Day 2: Sint Maarten – Tintamarre / Grand Case

Run approximately 12–15 nautical miles along the French-side coast to Tintamarre or Grand Case, according to the forecast. Tintamarre suits a snorkelling and swim programme; Grand Case supplies a restaurant-led evening ashore. This acclimatisation day precedes the exposed St Barths passage. The Captain selects the overnight position for protection rather than forcing a fixed anchorage.

  3. Day 3: St Martin – Gustavia, St Barths

Pass about 15 nautical miles south-east to Gustavia, roughly 90 minutes at moderate displacement pace, with conditions deciding the actual passage. Complete arrival formalities and use the allocated port or harbour position. The afternoon is for the quayside, Fort Gustav viewpoints and dinner in town. During festive dates, agree tender slots and the return route before guests go ashore.

  4. Day 4: Gustavia – Saint-Jean – Grand Cul-de-Sac

Make a short north-coast circuit, around 8–12 nautical miles depending on the holding position. Saint-Jean suits swimming, beach restaurants and watching SBH arrivals. Continue to Grand Cul-de-Sac only if wind and local controls permit. The yacht remains the private base while guests move by tender between beach, lunch and watersports. Return to a Captain-selected protected overnight position.

  5. Day 5: St Barths – Colombier tender excursion – Anguilla

Start with Colombier as a controlled tender excursion, not a superyacht anchorage: the Marine Park excludes vessels over 25 metres. Keep outside restricted water, then make the approximately 22–25-nautical-mile open-water passage to Anguilla. Clear Customs and Immigration at Sandy Ground in Road Bay before dinner aboard, timed to the forecast and clearance window.

  6. Day 6: Anguilla – Prickly Pear Cays – Simpson Bay

Use the morning for Anguilla and, if conditions permit, the Prickly Pear Cays. After lunch, cross roughly 11 nautical miles to Simpson Bay for an operational reset. A marina night gives reliable shore access and reduces final-day pressure. Choose a low-key onboard dinner or an optional Dutch-side evening ashore afterwards.

  7. Day 7: Simpson Bay – Gustavia farewell or SXM departure

For an SXM departure, disembark from Sint Maarten with an airport buffer. For a one-way programme, make the final approximately 15-nautical-mile run to Gustavia and arrange the ten-minute SBH flight connection. Set the end port before contracting: it affects berth planning, delivery terms and the tax and clearance analysis throughout.

When to charter St Barths

These are indicative weekly base-rate bands for professionally crewed yachts in the Caribbean, before variable operating expenses. Festive dates, yacht pedigree, age, guest capacity and confirmed cruising area can move a rate materially.

Plan a Caribbean APA of typically 25–35% of the base charter fee for fuel, food and drink, berthage, port costs, local fees and tailored arrangements; the Captain accounts for expenditure and returns any unused balance. Saint-Barthélemy is outside the EU VAT territory, so French 20% EU VAT is not the starting treatment for a charter embarking there; local port, clearance and itinerary charges still apply. In Sint Maarten, a 5% turnover tax can attach to a supply made in the territory, but a cross-border week is contract- and itinerary-specific, not a blanket 5% VAT. Confirm tax, permits and fees for the actual yacht before signing. MYBA terms commonly provide 50% on signing and 50% before embarkation.

St Barths events that shape Winter 2026/27

  • St Barths New Year’s Eve

Gustavia is the focal point for the island’s annual superyacht gathering. The destination tourism board describes midnight fireworks above Fort Oscar and superyachts sounding their foghorns. Quay berths are exceptionally constrained and the outer harbour, Shell Beach approaches and tender movements require an early captain-and-broker operating plan.

  • St Barths Bucket Regatta

The official 2027 programme opens on Wednesday 17 March, with four race days from Thursday through Sunday and a final awards party on 21 March. A charter yacht is an excellent spectator platform, but the harbour will be busy. Secure the yacht and discuss berth, anchorage and tender routing well before the event week.

  • Les Voiles de St Barth Richard Mille

Les Voiles brings racing yachts, spectators and shore activity to Gustavia in its traditional April slot. The destination’s current event page asks visitors to check for the next exact dates, so April 2027 should be treated as an expected window rather than a confirmed fixture. Build a flexible itinerary until the organiser releases its notice and schedule.

Arrival, berthing and charter logistics

International air arrival
Princess Juliana International Airport, Sint Maarten (SXM), is the principal gateway. St Barths Tourism lists 22 airlines and 34 direct routes arriving at SXM daily.
SXM to St Barths transfer time
Winair and St Barth Commuter operate the SXM–SBH shuttle in about 10 minutes. Private helicopter and light-aircraft transfers are also available on demand.
Sea transfer alternatives
Tourism-board schedules list 45-minute crossings from Simpson Bay or Philipsburg to Gustavia and a one-hour crossing from Marigot; schedules can change.
Port de Gustavia procedure
Call the Port Captain on VHF 12 for specific authorisation before entering or manoeuvring. Online pre-clearance may be completed within 24 hours of arrival; stern-to berthing uses the yacht’s anchor.
New Year berth planning
The port does not officially take reservations, but asks yachts to provide intended dates and dimensions in advance. For festive week, treat this as early berth planning, not a guaranteed booking.
St Martin operating bases
IGY Simpson Bay publishes 20 megayacht berths and a 57.5 m maximum length. Port de Plaisance publishes 90-plus slips and berths for yachts to 260 feet, subject to its access and operational constraints.
Cross-border formalities
A yacht moving through the Dutch and French sides of St Martin must clear Customs and Immigration. Anguilla-bound private yachts clear Customs and Immigration at Sandy Ground before cruising onward.

Why charter with Bluecharter

Central-agency fleet access

Bluecharter by Bluebnc Yachting has broker access to the full central-agency charter fleet, rather than a narrow owned inventory. That matters in St Barths during festive and regatta weeks, when finding the right operational fit is as important as selecting a style of yacht.

MYBA E-Contract terms

Charters can be contracted under MYBA E-Contract charter agreements, giving the transaction a recognised superyacht charter framework. We explain the base rate, APA, payment stages, delivery terms and destination-specific operational assumptions before the agreement is finalised, so the yacht, route and commercial structure are understood before signing.

Yachtfolio-listed fleet reach

Yachtfolio-listed fleet access supports a current view of the wider charter market and its available operating areas. For a St Barths enquiry, this enables a practical comparison of yacht size, draft, tender capability, crew set-up and Caribbean positioning against the intended dates.

Maritime heritage and insured service

Bluecharter brings three generations of maritime heritage since 1963, Lloyd’s-insured service and IYBA membership. Its Fort Lauderdale global headquarters and Palma de Mallorca office connect Caribbean winter planning with the wider annual charter calendar, including the following Mediterranean season and cross-season yacht planning.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a superyacht charter in St Barths cost?

For a crewed yacht of 30 metres or more, start around US$65,000 per week plus expenses, rising beyond US$1.2 million for the largest yachts. Add a Caribbean APA, normally 25–35%, for fuel, food and drink, berthage, port costs and tailored arrangements. Confirm destination charges for the exact itinerary.

When is the best time for a Yacht Charter St Barths?

Mid-December through April is the principal St Barths charter season, with reliable winter warmth and trade-wind conditions. New Year is the social apex, while March pairs excellent cruising with the St Barths Bucket. April and early May can offer a more measured pace, while still allowing St Martin and Anguilla passages.

Can I book a berth in Port de Gustavia for New Year?

Do not assume a conventional confirmed marina booking. Port de Gustavia does not officially take reservations, but it asks yachts to communicate planned dates and dimensions in advance so berthing can be planned. Before entering or manoeuvring, the yacht must obtain Port Captain authorisation; an outer-harbour or nearby anchorage plan should remain part of the festive contingency.

Why is New Year’s Eve in St Barths such a major yacht event?

On 31 December, Gustavia concentrates international visitors, restaurants, waterfront activity and a notable superyacht fleet. The St Barths destination board describes midnight fireworks above Fort Oscar, with superyachts moored off the island sounding their horns. The appeal is being able to combine a private onboard base with a brief tender ride into the centre of the celebration.

Can a 30 m-plus superyacht anchor at Colombier?

No. The Saint Barthélemy environmental authority states that vessels over 25 metres are not authorised in Colombier Bay or Fourchue Bay. Colombier remains worthwhile as a tender-led beach and snorkelling excursion, but the Captain must keep a superyacht outside restricted water and follow the Marine Park’s operating rules.

How do guests reach St Barths for a yacht charter?

Most international guests arrive at SXM. The shuttle flight to St Barths’ SBH airport takes about ten minutes; private helicopter or light aircraft can also be arranged. Tourism-board schedules list ferries to Gustavia in 45 minutes from Simpson Bay or Philipsburg, or about one hour from Marigot, subject to change.

Should a St Barths charter include Sint Maarten and Anguilla?

Yes, if you want a complete one-week Leeward Islands programme rather than seven nights in one harbour. Sint Maarten supplies the most convenient international air gateway, substantial marina support and provisioning. Anguilla provides a lower-key beach and cay day, but it requires Customs and Immigration clearance at Sandy Ground and should be planned around the open-water forecast.

What tax applies when a yacht charter starts in St Barths?

Saint-Barthélemy is outside the EU VAT territory, so French mainland-style 20% EU VAT is not the default for a charter embarking there. Port, clearance, permit and destination charges can still arise through APA. Check the yacht’s commercial status, contract and route before signing.

Is starting in Sint Maarten taxed differently from starting in St Barths?

Yes. Sint Maarten applies a 5% turnover tax to supplies made in its territory; on a multi-island charter, treatment depends on the supplier, embarkation, contract, itinerary and fee structure. It is not interchangeable with EU VAT, so obtain written advice for the selected yacht and route.

When is the St Barths Bucket Regatta in 2027?

Official Bucket dates are 17–21 March 2027, with racing Thursday 18 through Sunday 21 March and social events on the Quay. It is a strong spectator-charter week, but discuss yacht positioning, tender circulation and Gustavia arrangements early. Les Voiles is expected in April, but its 2027 dates are unpublished.
