How much should I tip the yacht crew?

The industry standard is 10-15% of the base charter fee in the Mediterranean and 15-20% in the Caribbean and USA. The final amount should reflect your satisfaction with the service.

Do I have to tip in cash?

Cash is the most common and preferred method. It is best to prepare the gratuity in an envelope and give it to the captain at the end of your charter. Wire transfers may be possible but should be arranged in advance with your broker.

Why can't I wear my shoes on the yacht?

To protect the yacht's expensive and delicate teak decking from scratches, scuffs, and dirt. You can go barefoot, wear provided slippers, or use clean, soft-soled deck shoes that are only worn on board.

Can I bring my own alcohol on board?

Yes, you can. It is best to specify your preferences on the pre-charter preference sheet so the crew can have it stocked for you. However, if you have a special bottle of wine or spirit you'd like to bring, it is generally not a problem.

What is the smoking policy on a superyacht?

Smoking is strictly prohibited inside almost all yachts. There will be designated smoking areas on the exterior decks. Always confirm the yacht's specific policy and use the provided ashtrays.

Are children welcome on a superyacht charter?

Absolutely. A yacht charter is a magical experience for families. Many yachts are specifically equipped with child-friendly amenities and safety features. It is crucial to communicate the ages and needs of your children in advance so the crew can be fully prepared. Explore our guide to chartering with children for more tips.

Can I create my own itinerary?

Yes, one of the greatest luxuries of a private charter is the freedom to set your own course. While the captain will have a suggested itinerary, you have the flexibility to change it based on your interests, weather permitting.
