Is the APA always 25-35%?

This is the industry standard and a reliable benchmark for most charters. However, it can be tailored. For instance, a charter with extensive cruising over long distances will consume more fuel, so your broker might recommend a 35% or even 40% APA. Conversely, a static charter might only require a 20% APA.

Can I bring my own fine wines or specific spirits?

Absolutely. It is essential to coordinate this with your charter broker and the yacht's crew beforehand. They can ensure proper storage and service. The crew can also provision any beverage on your behalf, often leveraging their local knowledge and supplier relationships.

What is definitively not included in the charter fee or APA?

Your personal travel to and from the yacht (flights, transfers), any onshore excursions or activities, personal laundry, and discretionary crew gratuity are not included.

How is the crew gratuity really handled?

The gratuity is a direct reflection of your satisfaction. The amount is at your discretion, but 10-20% of the base charter fee is the industry guideline. It is typically given to the captain at the charter's conclusion for equitable distribution amongst all crew members.

Why is there such a significant price jump for high season?

This is a simple function of supply and demand. There are a limited number of high-quality charter yachts and a very high demand for them during peak holiday periods. Booking well in advance or being flexible with your dates in the shoulder seasons are the best strategies for securing better value.

What happens if I have to cancel my charter?

The cancellation policy is clearly defined in your MYBA charter agreement. We unequivocally recommend taking out comprehensive charter cancellation insurance to protect your investment.

Is it possible to negotiate the charter fee?

While charter fees for the most in-demand yachts in high season are generally firm, there can be opportunities for negotiation, particularly for longer charters, last-minute bookings, or during the shoulder seasons. Your charter broker can discreetly negotiate on your behalf.
