Question 1

What is the best time to charter a yacht in the Caribbean?

Accepted Answer

The Caribbean yacht charter season runs from November to April, with peak season in December through March. This period offers ideal sailing conditions with steady 15-20 knot trade winds, minimal rainfall, and air temperatures of 26-30°C. Hurricane season (June-November) is avoided by most charter yachts, which reposition to the Mediterranean for summer.

Question 2

How much does a Caribbean yacht charter cost per week?

Accepted Answer

Caribbean yacht charters range from €30,000 to €400,000+ per week depending on yacht size and destination. The BVI and St. Barths command premium rates, while Grenada and Antigua offer better value. A 40-metre superyacht averages €80,000-€150,000 per week in peak season. The APA typically adds 30-40% for fuel, provisions, and island fees.

Question 3

Which Caribbean island is best for a yacht charter?

Accepted Answer

The best Caribbean island depends on your priorities: St. Barths for glamour and gastronomy, the BVI for classic sailing and protected anchorages, Antigua for 365 beaches and English Harbour heritage, the Grenadines for unspoiled beauty, and St. Martin for duty-free shopping and French-Dutch culture. Most 7-day charters visit 3-5 islands.

Question 4

Can I charter a yacht during the Caribbean regatta season?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Caribbean regatta season (January-May) is a spectacular time to charter. Key events include the St. Barths Bucket (March), Antigua Sailing Week (April-May), the RORC Caribbean 600 (February), and the Superyacht Challenge Antigua (January). Chartering during regattas lets you watch world-class racing from your private yacht.

Question 5

What water sports are available on a Caribbean yacht charter?

Accepted Answer

Caribbean yacht charters offer exceptional water sports thanks to warm, clear waters year-round. Most superyachts carry jet skis, seabobs, wakeboards, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkelling gear, and inflatable water toys. The Caribbean's coral reefs provide world-class diving and snorkelling, particularly in the BVI, Tobago Cays, and Turks and Caicos.
